Celebrating World Egg Day

As members of the egg industry, we're proud to take one day to celebrate the power of the egg: World Egg Day 2018.

Eggs are sustainable, affordable and highly nutritious. Eggs have the benefit of a low carbon footprint and are one of the most economic sources of protein. We truly believe eggs have the power to feed the world!

What is World Egg Day?

World Egg Day was established by the IEC (International Egg Commission) as every second Friday in October to celebrate and promote the health and environmental benefits of eating eggs.

Events in the past have included family festivals, cook-off competitions, social media campaigns, and community donations and outreach programs.

Facts about eggs

  • A large egg contains only 70 calories and 5 grams of fat.
  • How to tell if an egg is raw or hard-cooked? Spin it! If the egg spins easily, it is hard-cooked. If it wobbles, it is raw.
  • Egg yolks are one of the few foods that are a naturally good source of Vitamin D.
  • If an egg is accidentally dropped on the floor, sprinkle it heavily with salt for easy cleanup.
  • Egg protein has just the right mix of essential amino acids needed by humans to build tissue.
  • The egg industry donates over 50 million eggs every year to food banks, aid projects, charities, and community projects, helping to feed the underfed and undernourished.
